Open to all students enrolled, or who will be enrolled, in an elementary, junior high, or high school during that academic year, including homeschooled students in an equivalent grade level, who have not previously received a prize in their category (a previous Junior-category winner who has aged into the Senior category may enter). Two judging categories: Senior = grades 9-12; Junior = grades 8 and below. Entry requirements: complete the downloadable Entry Form and attach it to the front of the submission; essay of about 1,000 words, neat and legible, double spaced, typed preferred; include name, age, address, telephone number, school, and grade; and include a written statement from a parent, guardian, or teacher certifying the essay is the entrant's original work (the entry form states submissions received without this certification will be disqualified). Submit by mail, postmarked on or before December 31, to NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund, Attn: Office of the General Counsel, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030-9400. All essays become the property of the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund and are deemed a 'work made for hire.' No NRA membership, club sponsorship, nomination, GPA, test score, financial need, major, or demographic requirement.
